Simply Jesus - End Times

Matthew 24

When I was about 13 our church showed a movie called "Thief in the Night". Basic principle, it is the day after Jesus second coming. All the Christians had been "raptured" and we get an insight into what the movie makers think it is going to be like on earth. If I remember rightly their interpretation was that the only way to salvation post rapture was getting your head cut off!

Since sitting in Bible Class as a teenager I have been fascinated with the end times and judging by the amount of books written about it so is much of Christianity. I have come to realise over the years that this fascination is somewhat misplaced.

It would appear that the disciples were interested in this question when they posed it to Jesus. Jesus focuses on the need for us to endure and stay true to our salvation. Almost saying "hey lots of big things are going to happen in the centuries to come: war, famine, natural disasters. But you need to concentrate on you and spreading the Good News.

v 14 All during this time, the good news—the Message of the kingdom—will be preached all over the world, a witness staked out in every country. And then the end will come.

Revelation 10:9-11 – The Little Book

John must prophesy AGAIN before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings (Re.10:9-11).

Then it can be said that the gospel of the kingdom will have been preached in all the world, and then shall the end come (Matt.24:14).

The prophecy that John is to prophesy again will be understood in the end days.

I believe that it is John's prophecy, that he must prophesy again, that the two witnesses will prophesy during the three and a half years (Re.11:3) prior to the tribulation under the beasts/kings of Revelation 13:1 and 13:11.

No Billy, you are thinking of Highlander....
FREEDOM! .......no wait ........ that's a different film again. (sorry)
Where do you stand on this decapitation doctrine??

Andy said...

I think I saw this film as a kid - was this the one where people had '666' stamped on them, but in binary - a ruse so cunning that no-one realised at the time? Are you sure that decapitation was not just the punishment for not wearing 110110110?

It may or not be Braveheart, Highlander, Zoolander or any other such film...

Surely 666 is 110 0110 0110 in binary? (let me just zip up my anorak)
Some would say I'm missing the point...... anyone want to talk about runners and riders?

do you believe that Jesus is coming again

Billy Do you believe in the book of revelation, the rapture, and the 2nd coming of Jesus Do you believe in speaking with unknown tongues which is speaking to the father
Do you believe that that church has gone to sleep and there will be a falling away from the true gospel of Jesus Christ
Do you believe that there will be mockers and scoffers even in the church

Paul - I think it was the three individual sixes in binary rather than the entire number. But your way would work as well.

To be serious for a moment (lest I be accused of being a mocker), I think the church has been guilty in the past of concentrating and arguing on the end times, whilst ignoring Jesus' commandments. Priority no. 1 - Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all you sould and with all your mind. Priority no.2 - Love your neighbour as yourself. We've got a long way to go on these points without getting pulled off course into arguments about the end times which ultimately do not advance the Kingdom of God.

when the spirit of racism leave the church of Jesus the one he paid the price for then the world will see love in us and the kingdom will be advance

Happy to answer the questions above but would prefer that person(s) asking the questions do not hide behind the the user Anonymous.

But here goes nothing:

1) I believe Jesus is coming again.
2) I believe in the book of Revelation but maybe not the same interpretation as some people.
3) I believe that Christians alive at the second coming will be taken away to meet Jesus.
4) I believe and do speak in tounges (not sure what that has to do with the second coming!)
5) I do not believe that the church as a whole is asleep.
6) I believe that God's glory will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea.
7) There are mockers everywhere but I choose not to focus on that.
8) I do not believe that there is a spirit of racism in the church. (although I am sure that sadly there are people in church who are racist)

Now I know how to get comments on my blog mention the second coming and there you go!
