Brilliant day on Sunday at MKCC. We launched our new series for the run in to Christmas - When love comes to town. This December we as a church will be demonstrating Jesus love to our community in many different ways.
The band did a great job of I still haven't found what I'm looking for.
One thing that really got under my skin when talking about the lost son was that the Father let him go. This is so not how I am as a father. I want to control and direct (with a good motive) but here in the story the father lets the son go. It must be the hardest thing to do as a father to see your child making wrong decisions knowing you can help but also knowing that they will not listen.
Jesus paint the picture of a lovesick father who never for one moment forgot about his son, continually watched out for him and eventually on welcoming home after all the mistakes he knew would happen did not say I told you so.

Yes Mike did a great job looking forward to rest of the series.
Re your question of Salvation by works. I certainly do not believe in this and although I cannot speak directly for Bono. I really do not think this video suggests that. It addresses a story told by Jesus which is interesting to say the least and could be read that way.
What I would suggest and I think Bono was that Christians should have clear distingusing marks about their character and actions and caring for the poor is one of them. A Christian that does not care for the poor is an oxymoron. Or to put it more positively a Christian will care for the poor. Thanks for your comments.
