Judas & Silas much needed men

Day 14 - Rediscovering the Christmas Season

Everyone agreed: apostles, leaders, all the people. They picked Judas (nicknamed Barsabbas) and Silas—they both carried considerable weight in the church—and sent them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. - Acts 15 v 22

Not much to do with Christmas but this verse really spoke to me today.

My experience in church is that "Everyone agreeing" is not the norm. In fact in my 47 years in church I am not really sure I have witnessed it!

There always seems to many voices and opinions. Each one of them shouting for attention.

Ensuring we respect peoples voice whilst ensuring we don't just go round in circles trying to please everyone is a tension in leadership.

I think that this verse give us some help. To assist Paul and Barnabas on their mission they sent 2 men, Judas & Silas. The Bible doesn't say they were apostles, it doesn't even say they were leaders, but it does say they were men of great influence, they were men you could trust with your life, and willing to give up their own lives for the cause of Christ.

They were stalwarts in the church. Every local church needs them and when you have them LISTEN to them. Seek them out and ask them.

Thank God we have them in MKCC.
