Day 20 - Rediscovering the Christmas Season
“Here he is, God’s Passover Lamb! He forgives the sins of the world! This is the man I’ve been talking about, ‘the One who comes after me but is really ahead of me.’ - John 1 v 30
Growing up our family in a Christian family in the 70's had lots of pluses. But we seemed to attend "meetings" non stop. Breaking of Bread, Gospel meeting, after meeting, Sunday school, Bible Class, Prayer meeting, Sunshine Corner, Bible study, waiting meeting the list goes on.
Then it was time for summer holiday so what did we do we went to a Christian Guest House for 2 weeks. Guess what more meetings. Two every day.
Branairis, Haldon Court, Herne Bay Court (Above pic) don't have the same ring as Spain, the Vendee or Orlando do they?
Anyway a long way of telling you that as a young boy of around 9 at Haldon Court in the South West of England I heard Pastor Brian Downward preach on John 1 v 30, Behold the Lamb of God.
38 years later I remember vividly the way he pointed out that before Jesus had done anything of note he is singled out as God's sacrifice. Before he had healed, performed miracles, preached & taught. His mission and purpose was laid out for all to hear.
A sacrifice for the world. Taking away and dealing with Sin.
That night even though I didn't understand it, and I would later come to faith, hope was born in my heart.
