Rest?
Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. - Matthew 11 v 28 - 30
Sometimes when I read these words of Jesus I think - Really? Are you serious Jesus?
Yes I am my own worst enemy at times. Often I find myself in a self imposed prison of the performance trap that Jesus has destroyed but I with monotonous regularity try to rebuild. Jesus presents me with an open door of his grace that leads to grace and I choose to ignore it. Instead I opt for the futility of more works to please a God that is already pleased with me but I steadfastly refuse to rest in this grace.
But finding myself as a church leader I want to shout back at Jesus nothing about this is easy or light! But Jesus words gently talk back to me not telling me WHAT to do but WHO to follow.
The reason for my unrest and stress can often be because I am obsessed with doing something else for Jesus instead of LEARNING from Him.
Jesus said that one of the ways to find rest for to be "Gentle & lowly of heart".
Jesus didn't give us a 3 point strategic plan to obtain rest he MODELLED Character to us.

Jesus is certainly our teacher for a lifetime. New lessons abound daily. Resting was prescribed by Jesus...thanks for the reminder.
